I just got the inside scoop for all of you foodies! Peaches Hothouse, the new restaurant being brought to you by Craig Samuel and Ben Grossman (of Peaches, Smoke Joint and Li’l Pig fame), will be open for business on Monday!
I got a chance to peep the new place and it is a cute little spot with neutral colors and the same rustic vibe as Smoke Joint. It’s being billed as an “urban country café” offering “New Southern” food. A glance at some of the menu items indicates that they’ll be carrying a lot of the Southern classics we all love, but here’s the deal: their signature dish, the one that you MUST try, is called Nashville Style Hot Chicken. I got a chance to chat with Craig and he described it as “crispy, juicy and spicy.” If it’s half as good as he says it is, I’m going to have to write a letter to the Bed-Stuy YMCA and ask them to expand their hours, because we’re going to have to spend a whole lot more time at the gym.
The Monday opening was scheduled to coincide with the start of Dine In Brooklyn (Brooklyn’s Restaurant Week) which runs from March 15th to March 25th. During this time Peaches Hothouse will be serving a special Dine In Brooklyn menu, but beginning on the 26th they will be serving up their signature spicy chicken. I look forward to seeing all of you at the Hothouse!

In the old Brook’s Valley Spot? Tompkins is really looking up these days.
I was wondering what was goin’ on at the old Brooks Valley spot. This is just up the street from me. And yes Tompkins IS lookin’ good…La Table is becoming my go-to spot, Common Grounds is holdin’ it down and now Peaches li’l sis. I do hope that their service is a little better at this place…
Congrats Ben & Craig! Welcome to Tompkins Ave, we sure need a good restaurant around here. I am looking forward to visiting the ‘Hothouse’.

Love Peaches and the SmokeJoint. Can’t wait to check out the menu at hothouse. Sandra guarantees the chicken will be outrageous!
We checked it out tonight, and had a good experience. It is a smaller place than Peaches so I imagine the service will be a little better just because of the more manageable size. The staff we met there tonight were friendly and prompt. The food is great, they got that part right for sure. The chicken meatballs were cool, and my fish was cooked perfectly. Try it out soon if you get the chance, if they keep up this quality it should do pretty well.
Hopefully this menu will aim for more seasonal ingredients than its sister on Lewis. Asparagus in winter? Tsk.
Had a really good conversation with the owner about my earlier comment. I hope they stay, and folks have to stop asking for out of season ingredients (and french fries) especially since the owners source primarily from local farms.
Everyone go eat here! Keep sustainable food in Bed Stuy. I’ll be there with a crew tomorrow night.
So happy this place opened! Had dinner here last night the food was awesome! and its on my block a new fave place!
