Recently a cute little nail salon opened on Tompkins Avenue between Jefferson and Hancock. The salon is called London’s of New York Nail Bar, and I recently got a chance to sit down with the owners, Phillip Thomas and Musica Lorence. It was so nice to chat with them about their new business.
Phillip Thomas, co-owner of London’s of New York. Musica was a little camera shy that day!
When did London’s of New York open?
We opened on February 20th, 2010.
How did you choose the name?
London and New York are our two favorite cities.
What made you open in this location?
We chose Tompkins Avenue because it possesses so much character and an array of diverse businesses. We wanted to be a part of something that we felt was classic and new all at once.
So do you both live around here?
Phillip: I live in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Musica: I lived in Bedford-Stuyvesant for 16 years, but now I live in Clinton Hill.
Ok, now you know that there’s no shortage of nail salons in Bed-Stuy. What makes your shop unique? What do you think will set it apart from the pack?
London’s of New York is unique in its message and delivery. Our goal is not only to offer an affordable luxurious nail care experience but also to offer spiritual nourishment. Our nail bar had fastly become a place where people come to unwind from the daily stresses that is all our lives. A place where people beautify themselves inside and out. It is also a place where people network and help each other with their goals.
We think that our care and concern for Bedford-Stuyvesant and those that live in it will set us apart from any nail salon. The relationships that we foster are priceless.
Are you planning any in-store events?
We have several events planned beginning with Mother’s Day, in which we will be offering brunch as well as mimosas to any parties of two individuals who book and appointment for mani and pedi services. In addition we will be hosting “Ladies Night”, where groups of four or more women will be able to enjoy services, music, drinks, eats, and massages. Also there will be “Mommy and Me”, where mothers and daughters will able to have services done while enjoying time together. Also there will be “What About Me” and this will allow mothers and fathers of young children to have services done while we babysit. We know how challenging life can be while raising small children and we would like to give parents some time to themselves.
What’s the best service that you provide?
Our best service is the entire London’s of New York experience. We believe that an excellent customer experience is a marriage of excellent service and excellent customer service.
Our reason for opening London’s of New York is to fill a void in the Bedford-Stuyvesant community. We don’t believe that it should be acceptable for so many deserving people who live here to have to travel outside of that to enjoy a luxurious nail care experience.
We hope to see you in the shop soon!
London’s of New York Nail Bar has very reasonable prices. I noticed that they’re currently offering French manicures for $10 and pedicures for $13 (Time to get those feet ready for spring!). All of their services are wallet friendly. I recommend that you drop by and try them out. If you’ve already tried them out, then tell us what you think in the comments section.

Thank you Petra, for always supporting and highlighting the small businesses (new & old) in Bed Stuy. Your blog brings a lot of attention to the ‘featured’ small businesses. I read your blog religiously everyday – just to keep up with the going-ons in beautiful Bed Stuy. I truly appreciate what you have done for casaBAN!

OMG! You don’t know how excited I am about this new nail shop. I live around the corner literally and was ecstatic when I saw that it was open for business. The service is great and respectful. I had the privilege to meet Philip and he lit up the place with his wonderful warm personality. The prices are great and the company is even better. I’m definitely going to be a loyal customer. Kudos to Philip and Musica!
