Good news for those of you who love Indian food. The space at 1047 Bedford Avenue (on the corner of Greene), once the home of So Beautiful Salon and Spa, is becoming an Indian restaurant. So Beautiful disappeared a few months ago. I was surprised that it didn’t survive here because, well, let’s face it, hair salons and nail joints seem to do well in Bed-Stuy, and whenever I passed by they seemed to be doing brisk business. They still have 1047 Bedford listed as their address on their website, so I’m not sure if they went out of business or they just moved and haven’t updated their website yet. In any case, I really hope that this new Indian restaurant opens soon, because we all know that some raggedy “Coming Soon” sign doesn’t mean anything. (I’m looking at you, Chicken Chic.)
I’ve already created a wish list for this new Indian restaurant:
1) I wish it would open soon, and by soon I mean within 6 weeks.
2) I hope that the food tastes good. There are enough mediocre restaurants around here. Please don’t follow the herd.
3) I hope it has some seating. I’m talking about tableS and chairS. I don’t wanna see none of those plastic tablecloths and none of those weeble-wobble tables that force me to dig into my purse and pull out a piece of paper that I have to fold into a square and insert under one of the table legs.
4) I hope it delivers far and wide. Fast, efficient delivery please.
5) I hope that they have jalebi. People please don’t roll up in here without some jalebi!
What about you? What are your hopes and dreams for this Indian restaurant?

Wow, I am so pumped for this. My hopes and dreams include really spicy vindaloo.
I’m disproportionately excited about this; I live two blocks away and have to order in from Amin for my Indian fix right now. Ditto to everything on your wish list!
Deliver to Stuy Heights! All I’ve found so far that delivers here: two non-Domino’s pizza places, crappy Chinese, and one decent-ish sushi/Thai restaurant that’s willing to make the trek aaallll the way from Franklin Ave. And pretty much everything else you said, too :p
I’m embarrassingly giddy for this as well.
Anyone know anything about the spot being worked on at 1048 Bedford (next to the KFC)? All I can find is this website, which for a while said “Coming Soon,” and now appears blank: http://blackswannyc.com
It looks like it might be a bar or restaurant?
Whoa! Good looking out, BK! I’ll ask around to see if I can find out anything.
BK
From what I understand Black Swam is opening around spring or fall. The owners live in the community. One is a chef that has studied overseas for several years. They plan on having a bar and a full menu. Hope this helps. I can’t remember the style of food but when it comes to me I will let you know.
Thanks Citizen Who. At first I was afraid it’d be cheap Indian takeout like that curry place off Fulton street in Ft. Greene that thankfully closed. Looking forward to this. Next..Falafel? (fingers crossed)
I am so ridiculously excited about this restaurant coming to Bed-Stuy.
I co-sign with Melissa on the Middle Eastern restaurant and would like to send out a silent prayer for Tex Mex!
are you kidding? that cheap indian takeout place in fg was great! the owner and his wife cooked everything with love-they just had zero interior design sense, which probably had something to do with it’s failure. (take note people!) i am thrilled that this new spot is opening. we’ll be regulars if they get it right.

Just to add to the excitement, there’s a new Sushi Tatsu about to open on Bedford at Jefferson.
Oh please oh please oh please deliver to Stuy Heights! I too trek to Amin in Ft. Greene, when we crave Indian food. Their combo dinners are a good value, so i would recommend the new place offer an app/entree/nan combo. And another wish; no bright lighting if the place is going to be eat-in. A lot of cheap furniture and decor can be miraculously hidden by low light and candles!
