Butternut Market to Open in Former Solomon’s Porch Space in June!

The steel shutters are up, new windows in place.  Garbage has been hurled out.  The ceiling has been stripped, exposing wooden beams and incasedent lightbulbs. It’s been busy at the former Solomon’s Porch space (307 Stuyvesant Avenue between Halsey & Hancock Streets) for almost two weeks now.  This makeover comes in preparation for the long awaited and talked about Butternut Market. We’ll be talking to the owner about the organic and quality food market shortly.  More details to come within the next week or so.

Looking forward to having fresh produce in the area. Lets see how this goes. I’ve been patiently waiting.

  2. karma says:

The owners of this establishment are slum lords. I am a former tenant who was without heat for much of the winter because of their neglectful behavior. The market is being built in a mice infested hole. Do not support!

  3. The Changeling says:

If all those things are true, they might have some bad karma coming their way. Yikes.

  4. maconstreetman says:

The owner of the building is not the renter of the storefront or the owner of the business which will be operated out of the storefront. It doesn’t sound like she should be blamed for any alleged wrongdoings of the landlord.

The proprietor of Butternut is merely a tenant in the building, karma. Additionally, Butternut will take the retail spaces behind it along Halsey as well. I was in the space over the weekend and it is progressing rapidly and will be really nice.

  7. Karma’s got some serious concerns about the proprietors of a sorely needed business in that part of Bed Stuy.

Sometimes its hard for tenants to work on changing the paradigm of the landlord/tenant relationship from a negative one to a positive one.

I hope they can find the will…you can’t draw flies with vinegar.

  9. Key from the City says:

Are the owner’s of Butternut the same one’s that owned Solomon’s? The health dept violations are a serious concern, if so. I would need to see a food safety certificate or something like that-ie something that shows you have done work to correct the violations.

  10. daveinbedstuy says:

karma, you stopped paying rent for some small issues. I was in that building before all the skanky tenants moved in and it was a really nice renovation. Whatever became grotesque was from you and the other tenants.

Key…the owners of Butternut are NOT the landlord of the building NOR ARE THEY they former owner of Solomon’s Porch. Continue shopping at that grocery store on malcolm X if you deem this problematic.

  11. karma says:

dave your mother is skanky and she raised an asshole of a man. water pouring from the ceiling, leaks, mice, broken windows, no heat – are not minor issues. you are a liar and a crook. what ever you own, what ever business endeavor you choose, what ever you do for the rest of your life………..will fail.

  12. Dave says:

Grow up karma. Bottom line is you’re being evicted and that doesn’t come without a reason. Mother insults are just childish!!

307 Sty Ave definitely has its issues when you look uo violations on DOB and HPD.

Hopefully, Butternut will open, in some incarnation, in Bed Sty, before the century is out.

With that said, I highly doubt Butternut will open with it’s current investors. Maybe a new set of business people, with a new vision and an new influx of investment capital – which lack of – seems to have obviously stallled the project.
