Liquid Oz: Malcolm X Boulevard’s Next Coffee Shop & Lounge Space

The team that brought us Oz Hardware & Home (307 Malcolm X Boulevard, between Bainbridge and Decatur Streets) will soon open a coffee shop/lounge space named Liquid Oz at their first location (302 Malcolm X Boulevard, between Decatur and MacDonough Streets).  Co-owner Rodney Hughes says they hope to create a space that is comfortable with a sense of design and to provide excellent customer service.   Various coffees and teas will be offered during the daytime and during the evenings, wine and parings.  For updates, keep your eyes on their Facebook page.  Rodney assures, “When we open, we will be opened and when we do, we’ll make sure it’s done right.”

I’m giving them points for the name and for eschewing the “soft opening”. I’d like to see all soft openings phased out by 2015!

That spot has been like that, with the paper up and the writing on the glass, for months now.

  4. The Progressive Southside says:

i don’t think that means anything. liquid oz never promoted a soft opening or an official opening. as far as i’m concerned, they could be doing a gut renovation (after all, it was a hardware store). rodney summed it up nicely – “When we open, we will be opened and when we do, we’ll make sure it’s done right.” ’nuff said.

I have seen inside a few times. No soft opening there, they are totally redoing the place. Looks like they are doing it right. Fingers are crossed.

  7. Do you know if it goes all the way back? I’ve been looking at a few commercial properties on Malcolm X and the landlords chopped the storefront to put in apts. Sad. I hope there’s a backyard.

Good luck liquid Oz! This will be cool Im not far from there so I’m looking forward…Eh, “soft openings” are done all the time especially with boutiques (big wig Nestle just had a soft opening of a high end coffee shop)…so highly doubt it will become a thing of the past lol, funny how Peaches Hothouse did it and nobody made a peep…most smart businesses esp in restaurant biz will soft open without a lot of fanfare to prep for a grand opening. If someone’s not prepared for business its not the type of opening rather its the business model and/or owner imho
