A Sign Appears at Tin City Drug & General Store

It’s official.  A printed sign appeared in the storefront window yesterday – a hint of vintage black type on white.  We learned from Saratu Nafziger about the business when we inquired about the renovations a couple of weeks ago.  Saratu says “it will carry body and personal care products, over-the-counter drugs, cosmetics, eco-friendly household supplies, and a selection of natural foods (with a focus on local brands). There will also be an old fashioned soda fountain serving drinks and ice cream.”  More to come as they continue preparations.

  1. Thanks for the great publicity! I will let you know when we have a certain opening date–it should be soon!

In the meantime, I would love to hear from the neighborhood about the items they would like us to stock. Please let me know if there are particular brands or food categories you think we MUST carry. One neighbor has already put her request for hummus in!

  2. A friend and I stole a peek before the glass went in. Love the way the interior looked. Can’t wait to step inside!

I wish you and your business a lot of luck – I live very near by and look forward to you opening up soon. I’m still slightly unclear of what your business will be – how many food items you will sell versus drug and beauty supplies. The more food stuffs the better – in my humble opinion. I was imagining you might carry some of the Brooklyn based food items, such as mcclures pickles, etc.

  4. Maconstreetman: our initial plan was to have only a modest offering of organic, natural and local foods, but we have gotten a lot of feedback indicating the community wants more food items so we are reconsidering our product mix. We intend to be very responsive to the neighborhood’s needs.

We will definitely have local pickles–it’s already on the list!

We are also really excited about Tin City! We walk past every day and speculate about what we can buy and when. I would like to second the motion for organic produce. Cucumbers, bell peppers, and ginger are a few things i need right now! Also, are you hiring?
