Kara’s Artisan Bakery

Thanks to an email from a tipster, we recently stopped by Kara’s Artisan Bakery at 1003 Broadway (Broadway and Willoughby) to check out what the new bakery on the block had to offer. On the day we were there they carried a small assortment of breads, muffins and cakes. The shop was definitely more of a bakery than a cafe (so don’t even think about settling down with a muffin and a laptop for a work session). The owner was out when we showed up so we didn’t find out too many details about the business. Has anyone else tried Kara’s?

YES! Tried this place and LOVE IT!!! The pastries are amazing. I’ve tried the choco croissants and the various fruit danishes. And the bread. – all scrumptious. Seriously, the filling in the chocolate croissants wasn’t like the stuff you get in other places, it was some serious dark chocolate cream with substance.

And they sell reduced price day old bread, as well.

The guy behind the counter was just so warm and welcoming and patient while I perused the display.

And this place is so affordable. I bought a loaf of bread and 5 pastries and paid less than $10. I seriously will be going back there every single week.

    I highly recommend this place.

I’ve gone to Kara’s a few times–their bread (I think it’s the sunflower seed one, but basically a kind of health loaf thing) is FANTASTIC.

Now, I’m definitely going back! I met one of the employees and she was so nice. I’m stunned at the amount you got for $10, jj.

Funny thing about bakeries. You never really understand the benefit of having a nice bakery nearby until you get one, and then you wonder how you ever lived without it.

I usually stop in once a week and recommend the place highly – especially the cinnamon raisin loaf and the foccacia.

Kara’s really is a beautiful bakery– unwaveringly fresh breads, warm, knowledgeable service (just ask what’s good and you won’t be sorry), and $ wise, no different than those sorry old Italian/Cuban loaves I’d been getting from the grocery and corner store. Health bread? Yes, please (and nutritionist I aint)!

By the way, if you did happen to desire a real cafe– with that coffee, pastry, sit-down experience– Athom Cafe is a small, yet exceptional place nearby (1096 B’way). Their authentic, delicious French pastry is habit-forming; I’m actually salivating a little just thinking about their mascarpone cheese danish… (See? I told you I was no dietician…)

I’m happy to know you guys enjoy the bakery. ( former emplyee).
I used to work at Kara’s, but I just recently quit because of various reasons. However, I’m glad to know that most customers were satisfied with the service there.
