The Brooklyn Cooperative Credit Union has a brand new Stash For Cash program. Stash is a fun and exciting savings sweepstakes for Bedford-Stuyvesant residents exclusively. The participants open a club account with a $25 dollar deposit (this account has a 12 month maturity and gives a 2% yield). The 1st deposit along with each new deposit (of $25) enters them into bi-weekly, quarterly, and grand prize drawings. The prizes are $50 bi-weekly, $1,000 quarterly, and a Grand Prize of $4,000!! At the end of the sweepstakes, you get all of your money back plus interest! If you’re a Bed-Stuy resident or know someone who is, head to www.brooklyn.coop to find out more information. You can call the Brooklyn Cooperative Credit Union at 718-418-8232 x300, or you can visit their Bed-Stuy branch at 750 Myrtle Avenue between Nostrand Avenue and Sandford Street.
Also, Stash For Cash has an educational component called the “Peer Educator Program”. The program is designed to use informal communication as a means to spread the message of saving and financial literacy. Since there are a lot of people out there who don’t ever visit financial institutions like the Credit Union, peer educators bridge that gap by meeting people where they are, giving out great information in their own voice. The position requires taking a class to give the educators the right tools for the job. Once that is completed they are free to share their new knowledge where and when they see fit. The job requires about 10 hours per week and comes with a monthly stipend.
If you’re interested in participating in Stash For Cash, or would like to be a peer educator, contact David Hopins at email@example.com or call Allison Lynch @ 718-418-8232, x201.
