D’oh!

I’m kicking myself for not posting about this place before Brownstoner. Dough, located on the corner of Lafayette and Franklin, is a new doughnut shop from the folks behind Choice Market. I haven’t been in to try it yet, because, well, I’m from the south which means that when it comes to doughnuts I’m from the Krispy Kreme School. I’d never even seen a plain doughnut until I came to New York! (By the way, yuck.) Growing up we used the term “plain doughnuts” to refer to what y’all call “glazed doughnuts”. Who knew? Anyway, as someone whose doughnut interests are in glazed doughnuts and the occasional beignet, I’ve been slow to check out the new spot. Based on what I’ve heard so far, I might be missing out. People are raving about Dough and I heard that they have several delicious varieties of doughnuts to choose from. Have you tried it out yet?

I went this morning and bought four different doughnuts to bring to my husband’s office: plain glazed, lemon poppyseed, toasted coconut and nutella filled. All great, and while they seem to be trying to mimic Doughnut Plant in flavors/variety these are less sweet and a touch less greasy, which is a good thing. BTW, Why did this place catch on so late? It’s been open since before T’giving and they started selling the doughnuts three weeks ago.

They make doughnuts? I was kinda hoping for bagels.

If you’re a fan of Krispy Kreme, I found Dough’s dulce de leche with almonds to be a step up from what I know from KK. It was a yeast doughnut with a thin, sweet glaze and crunchy slivered almonds. Not quite KK but KK grown up.

Hmmmm…sounds pretty good, Emily. I just might get over there before Christmas!

  6. @Changeling … Good to know. I’m a Krispy Kreme fan myself, I will definitely going to have to check this place out.

And as I fellow blogger, I can completely relate to your first sentence. Just hate it when that happens :-/

LOL! I’m sure you can relate! You can’t be everywhere at once and you accept when another blog finds out something before you do, but it’s really annoying when that thing was right under your nose. I live painfully close to Dough and other folks found out about it before me!
