Welcome to Alcatraz

A new Mexican place has opened in the old Lulita space at 344 Franklin Avenue. (How long was Lulita open anyway? A month? Six weeks?) I sure hope this restaurant can stick around a little longer. It’s a tiny space, more of a take out than a dine in sort of place. I saw a few people enjoying dinner there on Saturday night, so it looks like it already has a following. Have any of you tried this place out yet?

I stumbled upon this place on its opening night, when the incredibly nice owner and chef were giving out free samples. Everything was delicious and tasted very fresh. Amazing horchata and guacamole.

Unbelievable food. Small dining room but awesome design and atmosphere. Everything about this place is original, from their concept to their food and the owner is unpretentiously welcoming. Everything about this place is fresh and it smells like heavenly cooking. You don’t get tortilla chips out of a bin or plastic bag here. I actually watched the chef in the open kitchen frying hand cut tortilla chips to accompany my unbelievable guacamole. Had the grilled vegi burrito, snappy fresh and smoky. Cant’ wait to go back! They are brand new and this is one happy chick for them. And Yay! Finally brunch in my hood. Took a look a their brunch menu for Saturdays and Sundays. Looks scrumptous!
