Bed-Stuy’s New French Press and Espresso Bar

In case you haven’t heard yet, there’s a cool new french press & espresso bar in Bed-Stuy located at 505 Franklin Avenue (between Fulton and Hancock).  It’s named Daily Press Bed-Stuy and owners Michael Zawacki and Sam Lutzer have done a great job turning the place into a cozy little coffee shop.

Sam Lutzer gives us the tour

I stopped by a few days ago and chatted with Sam about the business.  She gave me the tour and the backstory on the items they picked to furnish the place.  They’ve got some reclaimed furniture installed, including a coffee table that was once a part of a trolley car, some seating that was formerly at home in a masonic temple, and a counter made of wood from an old barn. The place has an unmistakable industrial feel, but at the same time it manages to exude a rustic vibe.  Matthew Chamoff of DraftBench LLC designed and constructed the beautiful interior. (You can email him at mattc@draftbench.com.)

I really liked how they’ve given the place a real Brooklyn community feel. There are old Brooklyn photos and books on the tables and they have a large screen where they will project a slide show that they made about Bed-Stuy.  They are also hoping that people in the community will want to take advantage of the projector and submit slide show material for them to showcase.

I didn’t get a chance to try their coffee which is from Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea of Chicago, but I did try a one of their delicious soft baked cookies made by the famous 4th Street Cookie Company. I highly recommend it.

Be sure to get over there and try them out and connect to them on Twitter (@DailyPressBK) and on Facebook by clicking here. Visit their website by clicking here.

This is a good spot. Intelligencia is one of my favorites too, especially for iced coffee. With Blue York open, all of a sudden we have a plethora of coffee shop options. Sweet!

Stopped by the other day. They actually sell ground intelligentsia for you to take home. Great looking shop. The cookies looked really good also. I got service with a smile in Bed-Stuy. Everything is on the expensive side but seemingly worth it. Nice to have the option at least. It’s fascinating how the Franklin C stop could be “fancied up” so quickly.
