Night Work by Rob Tallia at Tillie’s
Oakland Docks by Rob Tallia ©Rob Tallia
Not For Tourists co-founder Rob Tallia has been taking long-exposure night photographs for the past 10 years. His first show opened at Tillie’s of Brooklyn on Saturday, but if you missed it you can still drop by to see his photos of power plants, parking lots, piers, and other [...]
Sunrise in Fulton Park
Nancy Tomlinson sent in this lovely photograph of sunrise in Fulton Park. It’s the pretty images like these that make the snowstorms bearable. Well, almost bearable.
Thanks Nancy!
Another Foot of Snow!
This is another one for the record books, in more ways than one. Reports say this storm was the eighth-largest snowfall in city history, the snowiest January on record and the sixth-snowiest winter in city history.
Winter wonderland at Fulton Park.

A Nutrition Store Will Open At Former twofiftyeight Cafe Space
Tables, chairs, chalkboard menu, and the pastry counter of twofiftyeight Cafe (199 Malcolm X Boulevard, between Jefferson and Putnam Avenues) have been cleared out. As of now, only a fresh coat of paint and an empty space remains. The former cafe will be transformed into a nutrition store. Partners of the new business call themselves A Taste of [...]

Butterfly 7 Closed
Very sad to report that the place where spirituality met beauty – Butterfly 7 (207A Bainbridge Street, at Malcolm X Boulevard) officially closed a couple of weekends ago. Owner Rick Shorter is hoping to open at another location in a year or so. Have you become a fan of their products? Link to their Facebook page.

Won’t You Speak for This Tree?
Jeremy from BushwickBK recently emailed me about trees that could use a helping hand. Apparently the Million Trees NYC website lists city trees that are in need of a steward. There’s a tree in need in our neighborhood–it’s located at 192 Pulaski Street between Throop and Tompkins. Do you live on this [...]
The Brooklyn Prom Project: Making Prom Dreams Come True
Dazzle Divaz, the mobile party service that makes girls ages 4 to 14 into pretty princesses or fun fairies are sponsoring a dress drive that helps teen girls get dazzled for their high school prom.
The goal of the Brooklyn Prom Project is to help financially challenged teen girls in Brooklyn attend their upcoming 2010 high [...]

Hibiscus Day Spa is offering some premier deals from Monday April 12th through Saturday April 24th, such as their $50 tropical indulgence spa treatments and special extended hours.
There’s the Mango Passion body scrub – a sweet fruity scrub that is “so luxurious, it will melt on your skin.” The Hibiscus H20 facial reportedly has a potent [...]

London’s Of New York Brings a Touch of Glamour to Tompkins
Recently a cute little nail salon opened on Tompkins Avenue between Jefferson and Hancock. The salon is called London’s of New York Nail Bar, and I recently got a chance to sit down with the owners, Phillip Thomas and Musica Lorence. It was so nice to chat with them about their new business.

Signs of Spring
Two sure signs of spring occurred over the weekend – Daylight Savings Time and sprouting Snow Crocuses, captured in front of a brownstone front yard on Chauncey Street.
