Another Foot of Snow!

This is another one for the record books, in more ways than one.  Reports say this storm was the eighth-largest snowfall in city history, the snowiest January on record and the sixth-snowiest winter in city history.

Tear A Street Up. Then Pave It. Then Tear It Up Again.

Is it Murphy’s law or some sort of conspiracy when it comes to paving our city streets? Perhaps residents on Putnam Avenue between Lewis and Stuyvesant Avenues are pondering this. In Mid-October, the brownstone lined block tolerated street closings and construction as their street was milled and freshly paved.  In late December, the street was [...]

Saraghina’s Entrance Canopy

Has anyone noticed Saraghina’s new entrance canopy?  The black canopy was placed over the Lewis Avenue cafe brunch entrance a few days after New Year’s Day.   Saraghina is located on Halsey Street at the corner of Lewis Avenue (435 Halsey Street).

Macon Street Snowography

With yet another significant snowfall predicted to hit our area this week, it would be fitting to briefly review some of the amounts we’ve had so far in pictures.  Each image depicts Macon Street, looking west towards Lewis Avenue.

Breukelen Cellars

Hello, what’s this? A new wine shop? I wonder when it’s going to open — the sign has been up for many weeks.
Also:

I swear this is the last photo I’m going to post of blatantly mishandled snow collection and heaping garbage.

The play runs until December 19th (Thurs-Sat at 8pm, Sat at 3pm, Sun at 4pm). [...]

Restoration Rocks! October 9, 2010

I am feeling a little under the weather, but I needed to get out of the house and what better event to hit than Bed-Stuy’s own Restoration Rocks as part of the Bed-Stuy Alive festivities.  It was a sunny, Fall day filled with music, dance, food, and shopping for the community to enjoy.  The showcase [...]

Random Pictures of Storm Damage

Tree limbs fell on cars along Marcus Garvey Boulevard.

There was also a tree on my block with the top sheared clean off by the wind, a typical sign of tornado damage, according to the New York Times.
How does it look on your block? How did the storm (now classified as not one, but two tornadoes) [...]

How We Roll

When I was growing up we had a ’65 Cadillac, a beautiful gas guzzler that the kids in my neighborhood called “the batmobile.” By then it was the ’80s, so I really didn’t appreciate having such an old car. When we finally got rid of it in ’87, I didn’t [...]
