Mr. Brooklyn is a London steak [...]

The Patchen Avenue Cafe Gets Another Name?

Last month, we were trying to determine what to call this cafe, located at 212 Patchen Avenue (between MacDonough and Macon Streets).  It appears it has been renamed AGAIN – Pizza Burger + Fries Cafe? Or is the sign just reiterating the food they’re selling?  This is definitely confusing, since prior business signage is still [...]

The team that brought us Oz Hardware & Home (307 Malcolm X Boulevard, between Bainbridge and Decatur Streets) will soon open a coffee shop/lounge space named Liquid Oz at their first location (302 Malcolm X Boulevard, between Decatur and MacDonough Streets).  Co-owner Rodney Hughes says they hope to create a space that is comfortable with a sense [...]

This rotating foodie place located at 212 Patchen Avenue (between Macon and MacDonough Streets) has had several names within a short period of time.  When I first covered the opening of this restaurant, it was the Brownstoner’s Cafe. Only two short weeks prior, it was called Orchid Cafe.  Right before that, it was called Want’z Pizza.  Man!  According to this [...]

258 Cafe CLOSED

Faithful reader Irving alerted us Thursday of a sign posted on the window of twofiftyeight Cafe (199 Malcolm X Boulevard, between Jefferson and Putnam Avenues) that said they were closed.  Say it isn’t so!  I thought it was a mistake.  I mean, I thought for sure they were opened on that warm Saturday last week.  I hiked [...]

Brownstoner’s Cafe Officially Opens This Saturday

With free Wi-Fi service now available, brownstoners east of Malcolm X now have a place to surf and sip!  I paid a Sunday afternoon visit to Brownstoner’s Cafe (212 Patchen Avenue, between Macon and MacDonough Streets).  Their doors will officially open this Saturday.  Bed-Stuy native and owner Winfield Harrell Jr. remembers when he first opened in [...]

A Visit to Le Sucre Coffee & Jazz Lounge

Le Sucre Coffee and Jazz Lounge opened earlier this year, but it took me awhile drop by this cozy spot on Dekalb just off of Bedford Avenue. On the day I visited, both owners, Max and Jean, were there.

Once inside you’re immediately greeted by a mural of Ella Fitzgerald, Charlie Parker and Miles Davis. Now [...]
