Flip This House: Mixed Use Building on Malcolm X Boulevard & Macon Street
This mixed use corner property is an eyesore. However, the sandy colored four story building has some unique details, like the vertical brick patterns and triangular bay windows. There was a scaffold around the storefront portion at one time, but it looks like the entire building has been abandoned once it was removed. Does anyone [...]

Liquid Oz: Malcolm X Boulevard’s Next Coffee Shop & Lounge Space
The team that brought us Oz Hardware & Home (307 Malcolm X Boulevard, between Bainbridge and Decatur Streets) will soon open a coffee shop/lounge space named Liquid Oz at their first location (302 Malcolm X Boulevard, between Decatur and MacDonough Streets). Co-owner Rodney Hughes says they hope to create a space that is comfortable with a sense [...]

258 Cafe CLOSED
Faithful reader Irving alerted us Thursday of a sign posted on the window of twofiftyeight Cafe (199 Malcolm X Boulevard, between Jefferson and Putnam Avenues) that said they were closed. Say it isn’t so! I thought it was a mistake. I mean, I thought for sure they were opened on that warm Saturday last week. I hiked [...]

Illegal Shelter Pops Up on Malcolm X?
This information was posted over on the Bed-Stuy Blog Forum. I’d heard something about an “illegal” shelter opening on Malcolm X, but I didn’t know the details. What kind of fly-by-night outfit is this? Do any of you live near this facility? Here’s the forum post:
Please note that this letter has been updated [...]

New Art on the Malcolm X Street Canvas
New black and white contrast art on the abandoned storefronts on Malcolm X Boulevard, between Macon & MacDonough Streets. I don’t know when this was painted, but it wasn’t there a few weeks ago as I can recall. Does anyone know more about what inspired this or the artist?
Come Support the Malcolm X Community Market!!!
On Saturday while I was at the market, we got word that Migliorelli Farms, the sole farmer’s vendor at the market at this time, will not be back after this coming Saturday, as the sales at the market have not been enough to cover their expenses (labor and gas) in coming out to the market. [...]

Saturday Is Farmer’s Market Day
Welcome to summer and delicious local ingredients!
I remember, when I first moved to Bed-Stuy back in 2005, the only place to buy decent produce on a regular basis was Super Foodtown. And while they do a fine job over there at Restoration Plaza, there is no way that a single supermarket, no matter how upscale, [...]
